Bible Passage: Luke 5:17-26
Discussion Question: Why is Jesus the only One who can meet our need for forgiveness?
Food for Thought by Travis Agnew*:
After returning from His wilderness temptation, Jesus started teaching and healing around Galilee. This mini-tour attracted crowds. The religious elite, the sick, and the social outcasts were all among those who gathered to hear and witness the supernatural ability of Jesus. The more needs Jesus met, the more issues people brought to Him. Religious leaders came from all around to hear this rising star of a teacher everyone was talking about, but a group of friends were more interested in what Jesus could do than what He could say. While it’s true that Jesus came to address our greatest needs, which are spiritual, He never shied away from engaging with a physical need as a door to meeting a greater one.
Science and technology have given us so many ways to fix problems that arise. Medicine has made incredible strides from where it was even a few short years ago. However, we still run into areas of life we can’t fix, and that’s certainly the case with our spiritual lives and our need for a relationship with God. Thankfully, our greatest need can be met by the One who is truly the greatest.
