TobyMac wins K-LOVE ‘artist of the year’

NASHVILLE (BP) — TobyMac won the “Artist of the Year” award June 1 at the first K-LOVE Fan Awards, held at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

Other Christian artists nominated for the award were Casting Crowns, MercyMe, Newsboys and Third Day.

Casting Crowns, however, won the “Group/Duo of the Year” award. The group also received recognition for its involvement in the film “Courageous,” which won the “Movie Impact” award. Alex Kendrick directed and co-wrote the film.

Chris Tomlin was named “Male Artist of the Year” — a category TobyMac was nominated for as well.

The “Female Artist of the Year” went to Kari Jobe, with runners-up including Mandisa and Natalie Grant.

The “Breakthrough Artist of the Year” winner was King & Country, and Big Daddy Weave took home the “Song of the Year” title for “Redeemed.”

The “Book Impact” winner went to “The Love Dare” written by Alex and Stephen Kendrick.

Mike Fisher — a hockey player for the Nashville Predators and the husband of Carrie Underwood — won the “Sports Impact” award.

Members of the TV show “Duck Dynasty” hosted the three-day event, which included performances from Stephen Curtis Chapman, Audio Adrenaline and MercyMe.

The Christian radio network K-LOVE has more than 400 stations across the United States, reaching nearly 14 million listeners a week.
