UPDATE: In BP story titled “SBC leaders: Senate failure to convict will harm country,” dated 2/12/99, please substitute the following for the 4th paragraph:
An attempt to adopt a resolution censuring the president was blocked shortly after completion of the impeachment votes. The censure effort is given little chance of approval when the Senate returns after a weeklong recess.
In same story, insert the following after the 15th paragraph:
After the votes, the president apologized in a brief statement outside the White House. Before calling for a “time of reconciliation and renewal for America,” Clinton said, according to published texts, he wanted “to say again how profoundly sorry I am for what I said and did to trigger these events and the great burden they have imposed on the Congress and on the American people.”
