Women to be in the spotlight on new lifeway.com website

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–A new website just for women — lifeway.com/women — will debut May 7.

“God has used all kinds of products, events and online resources in the past several years to minister to women,” said Stephanie Lim, a women’s ministry Internet producer with LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention.

“We believe He’s called LifeWay to take our ministry one step further,” Lim said, “to reach women through a website specifically for them — where they can find all kinds of practical and inspirational helps in one spot on the Internet.”

Women can find practical tips for decorating on a budget, articles about health and wellness and suggestions for improving relationships. One section, devoted entirely to “Real Women,” profiles women from all walks of life — authors, musicians, career women, mothers and wives -– and how God is at work in their lives.

Women’s ministry isn’t new to lifeway.com, but this is the first time all of the resources are available with one click of a mouse. Even the design is different from the rest of lifeway.com, incorporating bold colors and eye-catching images, reflecting the input from team members representing different LifeWay departments and divisions who put the site together.

“We continue to see women look to the Web for information to help them grow in their walk with the Lord,” said Faith Whatley, director for women’s enrichment at LifeWay. “That was evident when more than 50,000 women signed up for Beth Moore’s two Internet Bible studies last year.”

A new survey by the Pew Internet & American Life Project backs that up: Two University of Colorado at Boulder professors found that 64 percent of online Americans use the Internet for faith-related reasons. Most of these users are women. They also found that two-thirds of those who attend religious services weekly use the Internet for personal religious or spiritual purposes.

Among the LifeWay website’s features is a women’s events section which includes Beth Moore’s Living Proof events, in addition to others.

“Women will be able to relive their experiences after an event by going online and viewing photos, testimonies and even video,” Lim said. “This is also a great way to share with friends what they experienced and encourage them to come next time.”

Information on women’s leadership is available as in the past, now in its own special section, said Chris Adams, women’s enrichment ministry staff member at LifeWay.

There will be an obvious difference for people who visit other women’s sites such as iVillage.com, Adams said.

“We want to provide biblical solutions to women on the Web, whether that means practical lifestyle articles, women’s event information, online Bible studies or an online community of Christian women,” she said. “It’s about helping them achieve abundant living in all areas of their lives and accomplishing Kingdom work.”

For the first 40 days after the site launches on May 7, site registrants will be entered for daily giveaways including a bouquet of flowers and a $20 gift certificate to lifewaystores.com. One woman and a friend will receive the grand prize –- an opportunity to attend a live Beth Moore event.
