Greenway charges Southwestern graduates in video address

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- With COVID-19 preventing The Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Scarborough College from having an in-person commencement ceremony, the school's administration and faculty still congratulated and celebrated 336 bachelor's, master's and doctoral students graduating in the spring 2020 semester, including the largest-ever graduating class from Scarborough College.

Clark Logan named Southwestern VP for business administration

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- R. Clark Logan Jr., a veteran denominational leader with experience at multiple Southern Baptist Convention entities, has been named vice president for business administration at The Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. The decision came during a Feb. 19 meeting of the seminary's executive committee of the board of trustees. Logan will begin in this position immediately.

TRUSTEES: ‘It’s a new day,’ SWBTS affirms

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- "It's a new day at Southwestern," said Philip Levant, chairman of the board of trustees at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, at the conclusion of their fall meeting Oct. 23. Trustees began the week participating in the inauguration of Adam W. Greenway, elected the school's ninth president earlier this year. "God is with us," Levant continued. "He is blessing us. I think it's clear to see that He is putting everything in place for us to move forward. We are not where we want to be, but we know where we're going. And I'm excited to see where we're going to be by God's grace and His leadership."

FROM THE SEMINARIES: Greenway leads first convocation as SWBTS president

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) – Adam W. Greenway, in his first convocation as president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, continued the longstanding tradition of pronouncing the incoming class of students "Southwesterners." To emphasize the heritage of such a pronouncement, however, Greenway did not deliver the charge himself, but appealed to a historic figure from the seminary's past: Robert Naylor, the seminary's fifth president, who began the tradition during his presidency.

SWBTS launches Center for Church Revitalization

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary is establishing a Center for Church Revitalization, President Adam W. Greenway has announced. Kenneth Priest will serve as the center's interim director. "Ever since our founding by pastor-theologian B.H. Carroll, the heartbeat of Southwestern Seminary has been training pastors and ministry staff members for more faithful service in local Southern Baptist churches," Greenway said Monday (Aug. 5).

FROM THE SEMINARIES: Veteran TX pastor Chris Osborne joins SWBTS faculty

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- Longtime Texas pastor and Southern Baptist leader Chris Osborne has been named to the faculty of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, President Adam W. Greenway announced Sunday (July 7). Osborne will serve as professor of preaching and pastoral ministry beginning Jan. 1, 2020.

SWBTS grads urged to touch world, impact eternity

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- "This is a graduation ceremony. These are commencement exercises. But first and foremost, this is a service of Christian worship," said President Adam W. Greenway during Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s spring commencement service, May 10. He explained, "We have gathered together to sing hymns of praise, to hear an address from God's Word, and to do something that is exceptionally significant: to commission nearly 300 graduates from undergraduate degrees through Ph.D.'s -- people who will go forth and touch the world and impact eternity."

TRUSTEES: SWBTS to ‘recalibrate,’ ‘strengthen core’

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary is looking to "recalibrate and to reposition" itself in "every way to strengthen the core of what we do," SWBTS President Adam W. Greenway told trustees during their spring meeting, April 8-10. Business included approving the budget for the 2019-2020 academic year, approving a change to Scarborough College's degree offerings, electing a new vice president, and approving a change in the administration of the seminary's endowment.

Church planter sets forth a ‘big God theology’

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- Adopt a "big God theology," church planter Heiden Ratner said as the featured speaker during the North American church planting emphasis at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Preaching on "the legacy of God" from Ephesians 3:20-21 during chapel, Ratner underscored the legacy that God has handed down -- that He is able and is with His people.

Greenway lays out ‘big-tent vision’ for Southwestern

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- "I believe Southwestern Seminary historically has been at its best when it's been known as the big-tent seminary of the Southern Baptist Convention," Adam W. Greenway said in his first chapel sermon as president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, March 21.
