7 things to remember after a challenging Sunday

Just look at the post titles, though, and you’ll see I’ve had a tendency to focus on addressing the negatives after a given Sunday. That’s not the best direction, so I’m repenting today to move in a more positive direction. Here are some reasons to rejoice today – even if yesterday was a tough day.

  1. God is still God. Always has been. Is today. Always will be. He reigns—so rejoice!
  2. God has chosen you to be a part of His family—and in many cases among our readers, to be a leader in His church. I have no idea why God chooses to use any of us (I’m not sure I would call me if I were God), except that His grace is evident in our callings. Rejoice in His hand in your life.
  3. If you taught, preached, or sang the Word of God, you can trust that He will use it somehow. You may not see it right away, but you can know that God will accomplish what He intends through His Word. Rejoice even as you wait and watch.
  4. Members of your congregation love you and pray for you. All of us likely have some members who get frustrated with us at times, but God’s people really are special. Perhaps we sometimes wish they were more verbal with their love and support, but we still know it’s there. Rejoice.
  5. Nothing you experienced yesterday took God by surprise. The victories didn’t surprise Him, but nor did anything you unexpectedly had to face. He somehow works through it all for His glory. You have reason to rejoice.
  6. You were likely blessed to do what many believers around the world cannot readily do. You gathered with believers. You sang God’s praises loudly without fear of anyone hearing you. I assume you opened the Bible, with all of it in your language and in your hands. And, note that I said “likely” in this point—it’s possible that even some of the readers of this post didn’t have the privilege you had yesterday. Rejoice in your blessings.
  7. You have new opportunities to honor Him this week. Do so today, and tomorrow, and every day that stretches before you this week. Begin even now by rejoicing!
