100-plus leaders receive training in first LifeWay Brazil conference

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–More than 100 Brazilian Christian leaders participated in a three-day discipleship training conference, March 8-10, in Sao Paulo, the first event conducted jointly by LifeWay Brazil and LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention.

LifeWay Brazil was established in September 2000 as a division of Bompastor, a Christian publisher, retailer and music distributor. LifeWay Brazil already has published a Portuguese version of the “Experiencing God” discipleship course and has plans for releasing at least five other resources in the next few months.

A key purpose of the training conference, held at a Bompastor bookstore, was “to start building their network of volunteer consultants,” Luis Aranguren, director of LifeWay’s international department, said.

“We were teaching in Spanish and they were listening and understanding in Portuguese,” Aranguren said. “The response was great.”

Volunteer consultants will go into churches to train leaders in the use of a discipleship process to enable their members to grow spiritually. LifeWay Brazil employees also were trained in the discipleship process.

“I think we were in sync with God’s will,” Aranguren said. “It once more affirmed our partnership with Bompastor. The Holy Spirit was present there.”
