NASHVILLE (BP) – In 1917, Southern Baptists decided the Convention needed a central office to handle its business throughout the year. When the Cooperative Program was established a few years later, the SBC Executive Committee received a small portion of the budget each year.

Faith often grows in moments of desperation. There is a reason James wrote in James 1:2-3, “Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance”. Trials grow our faith as we see Jesus answer in ways we might not expect.

NASHVILLE (BP) – Cooperative Program giving for May was above the budget goal for the month. Total giving remains about 3 percent under budget for the year. In actual dollars, year-to-date giving ($126,641,680.27) is almost identical to the amount given through May of last year ($126,667,880.91) – a difference of .02 percent.

How can we hold to authorial intent and believe that every page ultimately leads us to Jesus? Did the Old Testament authors intend to write about Jesus? Or are we reading Jesus into the Old Testament? I would like to argue that the authors—especially the divine Author—intended for us to see Jesus in the Old Testament.
